Our proposal “Advancing #genomicresearch in life sciences with highly accurate #longread #DNAsequencing” has been selected for Vrije Universiteit Brussel VUB Research #VUB #OZR infrastructure funding: https://researchportal.vub.be/en/projects/advancing-genomic-research-in-life-sciences-with-highly-accurate-/
This support will help strengthen long-read DNA sequencing capacity for life sciences research across microbial, fungal, plant, animal, and human genetics/genomics, and will open new opportunities for collaborative research using highly accurate #PacBio sequencing.
Many congratulations and thanks to all promoters involved: Stefan Weckx, Toon Janssen. A special thank you to Stefan Weckx for leading the proposal writing and for his persistence in bringing this initiative forward after several previous attempts. Grateful to VUB Research Research Council/OZR for supporting this infrastructure investment.
Looking forward to the next steps and to the exciting science this will enable 𧬠πͺ!

What the frog?! πΈ
Wen-Juan delivers her ERC inaugural lecture on 4 May 2026 at 5:00 pm in the Green Room, U-Residence, VUB campus. She shared her findings in her European Research Council (ERC) Lecture on FROGWY and how in most frogs, many fishes, reptiles and flowering plants, sex chromosomes may remain indistinguishable from the others and are repeatedly re-evolving.

A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, to vice rector Pieter Ballon for opening the event, to the European Research Council (ERC) for supporting this research, and to my fantastic team, bDIV research group and Biology Department, collaborators, colleagues, students, and the wider VUB and Flanders research community.
Feeling grateful, inspired, and excited for the discoveries ahead! πΈπͺβ¨
